Vacation: Calgary-Lake Lousie, Climbing for Blue Ice

At the end of the lake is a frozen waterfall where after months of freezing weather, the ice has squeezed all the oxygen out to give "blue ice". It is a big climb, as you can see from the photo, but I head up...

There it is...the "blue ice"...

Midland Life : Play Ball!

I went to a base ball game last Friday with my friend from work Steven at Midland's new baseball statium the Dow Diamond. The game was between the Midland based Great Lakes Loons and the Peoria Chiefs (Steve's home town).

This Lou E. Loon, the team mascot, coming up the stairs entertaining the crowd, and then me with a foot long hot dog! (A Loon is an acquatic bird that is found around the Great Lakes)

Loons are batting here.

The real reason Steve wanted to come to this game, actually, was to get an autograph of Hall of Famer 2005 Ryne Sandberg. He played for the Cub's when Steve was growing up and retired in 1997.

Vacation : Chicagoland

Over the Easter weekend, we decided to get out of town and went to Chicago. This time we decided to stay in the "burbs". On I went to Hotwire.com and found a hotel that had a decent price and waited to see what I got. Well it turned out to be Hyatt - The Lodge at McDonald's Corporte HQ...McDonald's??? Yes...McDonald's is headquarted in Chicago, IL which I had never realized before.

Well, the grounds turn out to be very nice and relaxing as you can see from the photos. The hotel was also very nice as can be expected from Hyatt.

Vacation: New York

New York! New York! We had to get out of the Midland winter and went to NY for 4 days. We made it easier for ourselves this time by staying on Manhattan island near Times Square where we would be within walking distance to food, entertainment, and the sights.

One of the places we went to was Grimaldi's. It is a famous pizza place under the Brooklyn Bridge. There was a line when we arrived and the place was full even at 8pm! It did not take long for us to get inside cos there were just two of us. As you can see from this video, it is not a big place, but very popular.

Here is a shot of the pizza from which you can see why it is popular.

The view of Manhattan island afterwards.

If you watch FAST MONEY on CNBC, we saw them filming live from the studio at Times Square.

Midland Life: Frankenmuth Snowfest

Every year Frankenmuth has a Snowfest with ice carvers and snow sculptures. This was the first time that we went and were surprised at how good it was. They had huge sculptures of snow and a whole row of ice carvings. As you can see, they do a pretty good job.

Midland Life: First Flight

We flew to Ann Arbor for lunch. Here are some shots from the air.

We arrived safely and took some shots next to the plane.

The flight took an hour to get there and then slightly longer to get back. All in it was a good flight.

Vacation: Day 3 Orlando, Florida

Now for the mail attraction...Disney World!

We thought the Epcot Center would be interesting, but we were a bit disappointed because it was the oldest park and looked it. They had a new attraction around Finding Nemo, but apart from that, we would have been better of going to one of the newer parks. We did have a good time nonetheless.

Entrance to the park.

Dolphin exhibit in the Finding Nemo attraction.

See the dolphin swim!

GM ride and Caroline in a Hummer.

Steven Curtis Chapman was there too singing Christmas carols. You can't see him from these shots, but I guarantee it was him :)
