Midland Life: I Met Mike Huckabee!!

Tonight we went to Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's rally in Birch Run. This time we did not go to shop but to see what goes on at these rallies and potentially meet the next President of the United States!

As you can see in this picture, I was able to get Mike and his wife Janet to sign the yard sign supporting his campaign, and I even shook his hand.

It is an interesting time in American politics and we find it intriguing to listen to each candidates message. Mike is pretty down to earth and I believe that he truly will have the interests of the American people at heart. John McCain would also be a good candidate to support and we would have gone to his rally if it was close by. Mike is the only one that has come our way.

It is still early days for all of the candidates for both parties. They need to win their own party's endorsement and then the fireworks will really start with each side plus any Independent's to fight it out until the November elections.

Vacation: Atlanta

I took a quick trip to Atlanta to visit Dad.  We went to the Presidential library of Jimmy Carter who as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.

This is the closest I will ever get to the Oval Office.

Vacation: Chicago

The Garmin and Apple stores along North Michigan Ave.

Can you imagine carrying this in your pocket?

Visited the Chicago Mercantile Exchange on this trip to Chicago. We pretended to trade the S&P500 futures in this pit where the futures traders stand during the week.

I also met Chris Garner about whom the movie staring Will Smith, "Life and the Pursuit of Happyness" was based on.  A great example of perseverance and what you can achieve despite what life throws at you.

Midland Life: Autumn Flight

It was a beautiful, although windy, day to go flying just as autumn was setting in and with the expectation that the leaves are starting to turn color.

As you can see, they are starting to change, but we probably will not see them change fully for another week or so.

Some of the lakes around the northern parts of Michigan.

This is Higgins Lake with Flynn Island at the top of the picture.

Vacation: Lake Superior, Michigan

Labor Day weekend trip to Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsular.

Pasties are like big curry puffs filled with meat.  The difference is that these "curry puffs" are American size.

Waterfalls are a special feature in the UP.  They are not big ones, but are nice to walk to.

Midland Life: Traverse City

Beautiful scenery of Lake Michigan around Traverse City.

Vacation: Oxford UK

Had a fantastic time in Oxford and Scotland during the summer where we had cream tea, fresh country air, and excellent scottish whisky.

Blenheim Castle
Sir Winston Churchill grew up here at Blenheim Castle that the original owners built but never got to enjoy because of the expense.

Edinburgh
In Scotland, the weather was cool and at times rainy.  One morning, we got up early to tour Edinburgh Castle and came across a procession where the Scottish Crown was being transported down to the New Scottish Parliament opening ceremony where the Queen was going to be.  There were the Queen's guards with the Bear hats and we even got to see the Queen! (She is in the pink hat).
